Pre K – Prepare them for Kindergarten School Today

CalKids Learning Academy is truly a very special place for your Pre-Kindergarten/Kindergarten child where kids can Dream, Believe, and Achieve.

Pre K (or Pre Kindergarten) means learning to function in a classroom setting which helps your preschooler get ready for the first year of their formal education–Kindergarten.

Pre K ReadingOur qualified teachers offer a wonderful program where children love to learn and explore their world in a very positive nurturing environment. As our children learn and play, they are navigating the world around them while having fun with other children and their teachers. Our small class sizes enhance individualized instruction and allow each child to reach his or her own potential.

Children ages 4 and 5 years old and entering Kindergarten can enroll for either part-time or full-time classes.

If your child is ready, he or she can advance to the Kindergarten Level. We will then continue working in those subject areas to which your child has now advanced and they will be exceptionally prepared for Kindergarten.

Your Pre K child will also be given an abundance of kindergarten activities and preschool games to keep them interested and involved.

Our monthly themes introduce our kids to many varied concepts as you see below.

Your child is on their way to Kindergarten.  But did you know they can get a step ahead of many kids their age? Kids between 4 and 5 are typically much smarter and keen on learning than most parents give them credit for.  Here at CA Tutoring Academy, our Pre K classes are all about teaching the very very basics of English, starting with letters, sounds, rhymes and more.

Writing

WritingAt this age, kids are excited to pick up a pencil and use it more productively than drawing.  They want to create with words…and they are actually quite capable of doing so.

So here we go into their first writings; learning and using letters, then simple words, then sentences…they quickly know they are communicating in written form–which is extremely exciting for them–and they take to it like ducks to water!

As we proceed, their work becomes more consistent, easier and rewarding for them.  Here’s what they are going to learn:

  • Letter formation
  • Conventions of writing
  • Spacing of letters
  • Creative writing

Science / Social Studies

Hands-on science experiments often correlate with our monthly themes. Many opportunities for fun and discovery are provided for our little scientists and explorers.

We explore both Holidays and those elements of society that they won’t get in regular school.  This is about appropriateness, tradition, and social standards across-the-board.

We Help your Child Develop Fine and Gross Motor Skills

Gross motor skills are involved in movement and coordination of the arms, legs, and other large body parts and movements. They participate in actions such as running, swimming, etc. Fine motor skills are involved in smaller movements that occur in the wrists, hands, fingers, and the feet & toes.

We supervise, monitor, and encourage both fine and gross motor skills which are important in the overall physical health of a child at such an early stage. Areas covered include finger dexterity and speed, and hand-eye coordination. Here are some specific areas we work with the child to help them grow more confident with their bodies.

  • Writing
  • Movement to music
  • Play-doh
  • Manipulatives

Music

Pre K Music ClassMusic is an important part of learning. It’s much more than science and engineering and helps kids, at the youngest age, understand how it can help kids relax and start to appreciate and develop the right half of their brains.

  • Singing and dancing to music
  • Learning new songs
  • Playing with instruments
  • Listening to music (daily)

Arts and Crafts are similar but not identical.  The crafts we use are materials found around the house, like egg cartons, cardboard, paper, boxes, string, crayons, paint, glue, and countless other accessories and supplies to make the experience fun.
